Choirs for Children
DUE TO COVID-19, OUR CHOIRS FOR CHILDREN WILL NOT RESUME UNTIL CHILDREN ARE ABLE TO BE VACCINATED. WATCH THIS PAGE FOR UPDATES.
Rehearsals are Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
As early as the 4th Century, children were singing during worship. The participation of young people in worship leadership serves as an important reminder that we are all children of God and that God has blessed the youngest among us with gifts for ministry.
Our Chorister Program is affiliated with, and uses the curriculum of, the Royal School of Church Music in America (RSCM). There is a time during each rehearsal when the Choristers work on learning to read music and music theory. In addition to learning proper vocal technique and fundamental musical skills through RSCM materials, Choristers also learn about the central tenets of the Christian faith and the relationship between what they are singing and the themes of the service at which they are singing. The Chorister program reinforces the spiritual truths that the singers learn elsewhere at Epiphany through scriptural texts and sacred poetry. In additional, Choristers learn that commitment and working together is essential to making music well.
The Chorister program is open to all girls and boys (unchanged voices) in 3rd grade or higher. Choristers lead the music for at least one 10:00 a.m. service each month and sing at other special services. The Choristers rehearse weekly on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., from September through May; rehearsals include a break to get outside and have some fun!
