Laundry Love

Laundry Love is a nationwide program that assists low-income families and individuals in doing their laundry. Having clean laundry is a matter of human dignity. The Church of the Epiphany and New Hope Lutheran Church are partnering to assist local low-income single parent families, so they may have clean clothing and linens. Harbor House has provided us with the names of families needing support.

Where and when will our program be?
We will meet at the Coin Op Laundry, 1008 E. Avenida de Los Arboles (near the 99 Cents Only Store) on the last Tuesday of each month from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
How will the program work?
Volunteers from our two churches will be on site and will provide quarters for the washers and dryers, as well as laundry supplies, to those families on our list from Harbor House. One volunteer will check folks in, and other volunteers will provide laundry supplies and be available for assistance. We will not handle the laundry itself.
Will these families bring their children?
If low-income families cannot afford to pay for their laundry, it is probable that they will bring their children along as they will not be able to pay for childcare. We will provide a corner, crafts and books, and a volunteer to watch the children and keep them from under the feet of their parents. The children always remain the responsibility of the parent.
What is our church’s responsibility?
Doing laundry these days is costly! Washing and drying for one family can be as much as $40. The Church of the Epiphany and New Hope Lutheran Church are committed to raising a minimum of $200 per month (each) so that we may offer laundry services for ten to eleven families. We additionally will purchase detergent, softener, and bleach.
How can I help?
Please donate generously to support this program. If you write a check to the church with “Laundry Love” on the memo line, your donation will be credited to your account for tax purposes. If you put change or bills in the Laundry Love jar, we have no way of tracking who made the donation but are incredibly grateful for your help. The gift of quarters is especially appreciated! You may also donate a container of detergent pods.
If you would like to underwrite one month of Laundry Love, please make a check to the church for $200 with “Laundry Love” on the memo line.
Finally, volunteer to help at the Laundromat. We will be there the last Tuesday of every other month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Split shifts are possible. Contact Karen James at [email protected] to volunteer.
