2021-2022 Music Guild Events
The Epiphany Music Guild returns!
In early 2020, the EMG was informed that it had been named the Best Non-Profit Organization in Oak Park. We are deeply honored that our work to bring great music to our community has been recognized!
After our 2019-2020 season was interrupted by COVID-19, we are delighted to return to the superb acoustics of the Church of the Epiphany with a new season of music for the community. During our upcoming season, in order to ensure everyone’s safety, we will follow all applicable COVID protocols that may be in effect at the time of the event. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding!
TBA: Epiphany Music Guild Member Appreciation Event
Harpists Hee Jin Yoon and Koni Choi delighted our audience during our 2016-2017 season, and will return with a varied program of music for the unusual combination of two harps. After the program, please join us for a reception to thank those who make our series of events possible through their generous donations.
If you were a member of the Epiphany Music Guild for our interrupted 2019-2020 season or if you join the EMG before September 15, you will receive an invitation to this special event. For information on joining the EMG, please contact [email protected]
SUNDAY OCTOBER 24, 4 PM
Festive Concert and Reception to benefit the EMG, featuring Trio Céleste
Trio Céleste (Iryna Krechkovsky, violin, Ross Gasworth, cello, and Kevin Kwan Loucks, piano) has performed on our series every year since 2014, except for the interruption caused by COVID-19, during which they streamed a concert for us! They have a special connection to the EMG, and, to thank us for supporting them, they want to support us through this benefit concert. This program will include selections from Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande arranged for Piano Trio by Henri Mouton, Rachmaninov’s Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor, and Beethoven’s Piano Trio No. 7 in Bb Major, Op. 97, the “Archduke” Trio. Admission is free for members of the EMG; suggested donations for non-members are $25 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $5 for students.
SUNDAY DECEMBER 5, 4 PM
An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols
Epiphany’s musicians will lead this annual service, which begins with the story of the fall of humanity, concludes with the Annunciation and Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, and tells in scripture and song of the prophecies of the coming of God’s Son, Jesus. Interspersed with the lessons will be choral anthems and congregational hymns.
SUNDAY JANUARY 9, 2022, 4 PM
Concert: Dolce Vento
We are excited to present for the first time on our series the ensemble Dolce Vento (Susan Greenberg, flute, Sean Stackpoole, flute and saxophone, and Tae Yeon Lim, piano). Their program will include music by J. S. Bach, Franz Doppler, and Friedrich Kuhlau.
SUNDAY FEBRUARY 20, 7 PM
A Service of Contemplation and Prayer in the Style of Taizé
In the 1940s, a monastic community in Taizé, France, created a new form of prayer service that was specificially designed to be ecumenical and non-denominational. Brief, easy songs are repeated to create a meditative atmosphere, and are interspersed with readings and silence to encourage contemplation. Led by the Parish Choir, this quiet, reflective service is patterned on the worship practices at Taizé. This service offers worshipers the opportunity to enter into a prayerful experience of God.
SUNDAY MARCH 20, 7 PM
Compline has liturgical antecedents that date back to the Fourth Century, and is a contemplative and richly beautiful service that brings the day to a peaceful close. It is sung, entirely a cappella, by the Epiphany Schola.
SUNDAY MAY 1, 4 PM
