2022-2023 Music Guild Events

In early 2020, the EMG was informed that it had been named the Best Non-Profit Organization in Oak Park. We are deeply honored that our work to bring great music to our community has been recognized!I

We are delighted to return to the superb acoustics of the Church of the Epiphany with a new season of music for the community. During our upcoming season, in order to ensure everyone’s safety, we will follow any applicable COVID protocols that may be in effect at the time of the event. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding!
Our Season

The Epiphany Music Guild is delighted to offer an exciting new season as we present a variety of artists who are new to our series as well as the much-loved Trio Céleste. Please join us!

karen-benjamin_793

Karen Benjamin and Diana Tash were best friends in high school whose musical paths diverged, and they are now together again to bring us a sparkling all-duet program of iconic Broadway and classical song. After the program, please join us for a reception to thank those who make our series of events possible through their generous donations. If you were a member of the Epiphany Music Guild for our 2021-2022 season or if you join the EMG before September 14, you will receive an invitation to this special event.

Pacific Duo

Sharing the desire to change the way classical music is perceived in mainstream culture, guitarists Nolan Harvel and Garrett Podgorski formed The Pacific Duo. The two met in the fall of 2020 at Pepperdine University where they both study under world renowned classical guitar virtuoso Christopher Parkening. In December of 2020, the duo recorded their debut EP in Malibu, CA and independently released it on streaming platforms in March of 2021. In April of 2022, Nolan and Garrett won first prize in the Thomas M. Osborne Concerto Competition.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 4, 4 PM
An Advent Service of Lessons and Carols

Epiphany’s musicians will lead this annual service, which begins with the story of the fall of humanity, concludes with the Annunciation and Mary’s visit to Elizabeth, and tells in scripture and song of the prophecies of the coming of God’s Son, Jesus. Interspersed with the lessons will be choral anthems and congregational hymns.

Concert: Selah Gospel Choir

We are delighted to present the Selah Gospel Choir, which combines the traditional gospel form with diversity and varied experiences of savvy music enthusiasts to satisfy the tastes and needs of gospel music loving audiences in today’s United States. Selah Gospel Choir offers culturally relevant musical content true to the spirit of its African American cultural origins. Their dynamic and entertaining shows cover styles from spirituals, traditional gospel standards and current songs of faith and perseverance.

taize-small_593SUNDAY FEBRUARY 19, 7 PM
A Service of Contemplation and Prayer in the Style of Taizé

In the 1940s, a monastic community in Taizé, France, created a new form of prayer service that was designed to be ecumenical and non-denominational. Brief, easy songs are repeated to create a meditative atmosphere, and are interspersed with readings and silence to encourage contemplation. Led by the Parish Choir, this quiet, reflective service is patterned on the worship practices at Taizé. This service offers worshipers the opportunity to enter into a prayerful experience of God.

SUNDAY MARCH 19, 7 PM
Compline
Compline has liturgical antecedents that date to the Fourth Century, and is a contemplative and richly beautiful service that brings the day to a peaceful close. It is sung, entirely a cappella, by the Epiphany Schola.
